Kiandre Weekes, once a young entrepreneur selling cupcakes to support his academic endeavors, has now risen to the highest honor at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados—becoming its valedictorian.
Recognition from the government
In acknowledgment of Kiandre’s outstanding achievements, St Kitts and Nevis’ Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #8, Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew, offered a scholarship to support Kiandre’s future educational pursuits.
According to Drew, the gesture, a testament to the government’s commitment, underscores the importance of nurturing and recognizing exceptional talents from communities like Cayon, known for producing high achievers.
Weekes expressed gratitude for the scholarship offer to attend the Norman Manley Law School. The scholarship will ease his financial burdens, allowing him to pursue his dream.
For many, the journey to higher education is riddled with financial constraints. Kiandre was no exception, but his dream of joining the legal profession harbored since childhood, propelled him to find unique ways to finance his education.
“Krowned Cupcakes,” his entrepreneurial endeavor, became not just a source of income but a testament to his resilience and determination.
Growing up with a single mother, Kiandre was imbued with a strong work ethic.
His mother’s sacrifices became his motivation to overcome adversities and turn societal negativity into moments of pride and achievement.
Mastering time and embracing support
Despite academic challenges, such as balancing work and studies or adapting to new learning formats, Kiandre’s success formula revolved around meticulous time management, self-care, and understanding his productivity peaks.
Furthermore, the young valedictorian deeply values the mentors, lawyers, senior students, and extended family who guided him, emphasizing the necessity of a solid support system in life’s journey.
A passion for Law
With his recent graduation in Law, Kiandre has developed keen interests in areas such as Constitutional Law, Real Property, and Legislative Drafting.
He envisions himself making significant contributions to the legal field and his nation.
For those facing challenges in their academic pursuits, Kiandre’s advice is unwavering: chase your dreams fearlessly.
His story emphasizes sacrifice, time management, self-care, and the importance of seeking guidance and surrounding oneself with a supportive network.
University memories and future aspirations
Reflecting on his time at the University of the West Indies, Kiandre cherishes the camaraderie among students and his active participation in university politics.
As he looks to the future, his ambitions are clear: he aims to distinguish himself as a leading Attorney-at-Law and ultimately serve as a Judge in the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court, all while continuing to uplift his community and influence positive legislative changes.
